A protocol was signed between the Occupational Health and Safety Experts Association.
[08.05.2026]

A cooperation protocol has been signed between the Association of Occupational Health and Safety Experts and the Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Association to strengthen cooperation in the fields of occupational health and safety, employee health, public health, and professional development. Within the scope of the signed protocol, the parties aim to contribute to the development of a health and safety culture by organizing joint training programs, seminars, scientific events, and awareness campaigns. In addition, the goal is to increase the sharing of knowledge and experience, strengthen professional solidarity, and implement joint projects for the benefit of society.
Creating healthy and safe working environments is of great importance not only for the health of employees but also for the protection of public health. In this regard, the joint efforts of nurses, midwives, and occupational health and safety experts will make significant contributions to strengthening preventive health services and increasing awareness in working life.
As an association, we respectfully announce to the public that we will continue to support interdisciplinary cooperation in the health field, produce projects that prioritize employee health, and work for the benefit of society.

On behalf of the Board of Directors:

President of the Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Association

World Midwives Day: "One Million More Midwives"
[07.05.2026]

As the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association, we strongly emphasize once again the vital importance of the midwifery profession for public health, thanks to the event held today, May 5th, World Midwives Day, with the valuable participation of our esteemed Midwife Nesibe Uzel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlknur Gönenç, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filiz Yarıcı.
The "One Million More Midwives" theme for 2026, determined by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), is not only a global goal but also a clear necessity for the sustainability of health systems.
More midwives mean safer births.
More midwives mean a healthier society.
The "Methods for Facilitating Childbirth and Management of Difficult Births Course" organized by our Association today was carried out as an important training activity aimed at strengthening the professional knowledge and skills of our midwives. Within the scope of the program, current and evidence-based information on approaches appropriate to the physiological process of childbirth, non-pharmacological pain management methods, birthing positions, and effective management of difficult births were shared. However, the reality on the ground is clear and unambiguous. Our midwives are working with an increasing workload and limited human resources. In this context, we once again clearly state:
Midwife employment should be increased.
Working conditions should be improved.
Professional authority and responsibilities should be strengthened.
Opportunities for continuous education should be expanded.
Because we know that;
Strong midwives mean safe births;
safe births mean healthy societies.
As the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association, we respectfully inform the public that we will resolutely continue our efforts to strengthen the midwifery profession and advance public health.

On behalf of the Board of Directors:
Ali ÖZGÖÇMEN

Healthcare worker attacked at Geçitkale Health Center.
[04.05.2026]

We have learned with deep sorrow and anger about the incident that occurred on May 3, 2026, at Geçitkale Health Center, resulting in the physical assault of our colleague.
It is absolutely unacceptable that our colleague, who performs his duties with great dedication, was subjected to violence by an individual who was reportedly intoxicated. We condemn all forms of violence against healthcare workers in the strongest terms and emphasize once again that such incidents must end.
While the arrest of the suspect is important, it is imperative that permanent and effective steps be taken to prevent such cases. The absence of security personnel at the health center leaves our employees defenseless and creates a breeding ground for similar incidents. This is a serious negligence.
In this context, we urgently call on the Ministry of Health to take action. Taking adequate security measures in all health centers, assigning security personnel, and ensuring the safety of healthcare workers is now an urgent necessity.
We extend our best wishes to our colleague who was attacked and emphasize once again that he/she is not alone. We, the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association and the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Union, respectfully announce to the public that we will closely monitor the process and continue to resolutely defend the rights of healthcare workers.

Private hospitals will close or downsize. Or the intensity of exploitation will increase!
[01.05.2026]

Labor is the highest value.
Health is one of the most vital areas of labor.
The amendment to the Minimum Wage Law attempted by the UBP-DP-YDP government, which would allow up to 40% of the minimum wage for nutrition, accommodation, and living support provided to foreign workers, provided a written contract is signed, poses serious problems in terms of the principles of equality, justice, and a life befitting human dignity in working life.
May 1st is a day of solidarity and common struggle against the exploitation of labor. This regulation undermines the principle of "equal pay for equal work" in the health sector and risks creating deep inequalities in wages, social rights, and working conditions between local and foreign healthcare workers.
Healthcare services are teamwork. They are built on trust, solidarity, and justice. Discrimination created between healthcare workers working under different conditions in the same workplace will disrupt workplace peace, reduce the quality of service, and directly threaten public health. On the other hand, encouraging a shift towards lower-cost labor could reduce employment for local healthcare workers and lead to foreign healthcare professionals working in precarious conditions or leaving the country. A significant portion of private hospitals and clinics today rely on these workers to stay afloat. Therefore, this regulation could have serious consequences, leading to downsizing, reduced service capacity, and even closures of healthcare institutions. Cuts of up to 40% from the minimum wage will lower the living standards of healthcare workers, make them economically dependent on their employers, and weaken their professional motivation. In the long run, this will also jeopardize the quality of healthcare services.
Furthermore, the following questions still await answers:
What are the standards for the nutrition and accommodation services to be provided?
How will these services be supervised in a manner that respects human dignity?
Will these life support services meet professional requirements in the face of demanding working conditions?
On what wage basis will social insurance and pension rights be calculated?
We believe that labor has no nationality. All healthcare workers, whether local or foreign, should have equal rights in working life.
As the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association, we once again emphasize that we will continue to protect the rights of our members, improve their working conditions, and advocate for a working life worthy of human dignity.
Our call this May 1st is: Stand for equality, justice, and the dignity of labor.
Withdraw the regulations that open the door to discrimination and exploitation.
We salute the May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day of all healthcare workers and everyone fighting for labor rights.

Wound and Stoma Care Training Organized
[28.04.2026]

The Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association held its “Wound Care and Stoma” training on April 26, 2026, at the Grand Pasha Hotel in Nicosia. The training program, which began at 10:00 AM, aimed to improve the professional knowledge and skills of nurses working in the healthcare field and was conducted with high participation. The training was given by Şehriban Çabuk Öztürk, a Wound and Stoma Care Nurse specializing in the field in the Republic of Turkey. The program covered current approaches, application methods, and important points to consider in patient care regarding wound care and stoma management. The Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association emphasizes that it will continue to organize such scientific and professional events to improve the quality of healthcare services and contribute to the continuous education of its colleagues. We thank all our members for their participation.

Sincerely,

On behalf of the Board of Directors:

VACANCY DETAILS (30.04.2026)

Respectfully announced to the public and our members
[14.04.2026]

Following the strike, which was held to voice the legitimate demands of our members and the community against the high cost of living, the summoning of the President of the Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Union and the President of the Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Association for questioning by the police and the reading of charges against them is an extremely worrying development in terms of the principles of a democratic society.

Healthcare workers are a professional group that selflessly performs their duties during the most difficult times for society and prioritizes human life above all else. Despite this, it is unacceptable that they are subjected to pressure for expressing their demands for a humane life under increasingly difficult economic conditions. The strike was a legitimate action carried out within the framework of constitutional rights.

The criminalization of union activities is not only an attack on the relevant unions and professional organizations, but also a clear interference with freedom of expression and the right to organize. Such practices are incompatible with democratic values and undermine social peace.

We clearly state here that the voices of healthcare workers cannot be silenced, and their struggle for their rights cannot be obstructed. We call on the authorities to immediately reverse this wrongful practice and respect the democratic rights of workers.

As the Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Union and the Turkish Cypriot Nurses and Midwives Association, we hereby declare to the public that we will resolutely continue to defend the rights of our members and all healthcare workers.

Sincerely.

Police Chief's Visit
[27.03.2026]

As the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association, we visited the General Directorate of Police. During the visit, we exchanged information about our Association's activities and legal framework. We also discussed efforts to eliminate the problem of crimes committed by non-nurses being portrayed as "nurses" in the visual and print media. We would like to inform the public that yesterday we filed a criminal complaint against the individual in question for violating the Association's Law, regarding the recent media coverage of a crime committed by a non-nurse as being attributed to a "nurse." We thank all police officers who perform professions requiring dedication and responsibility like ours for their duties and efforts, and we extend our gratitude to the General Director of Police, Mr. Ali Adalıer, for his reception and hospitality.

Sincerely,

On behalf of the Board of Directors:
Ali ÖZGÖÇMEN
President of the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association
